ELEMENTARY SCIENCE FAIR: Elementary teachers should have their Science logbook done by February 12. The Science Fair is on February 27. Lower grades (Kindergarten to Grade 2) should be working on their science class project to present to the upper elementary grades.

Ms. Maricarmen has 20 red display boards in her classroom that can be bought for 150 lempiras—they will go to the first ones who bring the money. Money collected will be used to reimburse the initial cost of the boards and cover some of the Science Fair expenses.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – This is week 2 of our second semester session for After School Activities begins this week. If students are not picked up at 4:00 p.m. please bring them upstairs to Ms. Giles’ office.

GRADE LEVEL PARENT MEETINGS – Ms. Giles has begun meeting with parents by grade level. Relevant information from those meetings will be shared with the teachers in an effort to foster communication and continually improve our program. Please let Ms. Giles know if there is anything that you specifically want her to share with the parents, or specific things you would like for her to ask about. The schedule is as follows:
Grade 4, Monday, February 4
Grade 5, Tuesday, February 5
Grade 6, Wednesday, February 6
Grade 7, Thursday, February 7
Grade 8, Friday, February 8
Grades 9 and 10, Monday, February 11
Grades 11 and 12, Tuesday, February 12
Meetings for Grades 2 and 3 were postponed last week and will be rescheduled with parents. For staff members who have children attending Discovery, please discuss any grade level concerns or suggestions directly with Ms. Giles.
ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION (AAIE) – Ms. Giles will be away from school from February 13-19 to attend the Annual Conference of the AAIE in San Francisco, California. During that time, she will have daily access to email.
SECURITY ON FIELD TRIPS -  The U.S. Embassy has offered to either provide security for us on field trips or contact the place the students are visiting to ensure the security at that site. Ms. Giles will inform them of any field trips when she receives the teacher's field trip form for her approval. Please make sure to provide adequate notice as requested on the forms.
TEACHERS TRAINING TEACHERS WORKSHOP - We have received information on the Teachers Teaching Teachers Workshop T3) that is held every year in San Pedro Sula. The theme for this year is "Empowering Students to be Critical Thinkers” Please let Paola know BY MONDAY, Feb. 4, if you are interested in going. We also need to have a brief explanation of what your presentation will be about. We will determine who and how many can go based on how we can best cover the classes for our students. (We already have 2 and possibly 3 teachers who will be gone during that time.) Teachers who go on the trip will share either their own presentation or information they learned by attending another session during a faculty or area meeting.

DISCOVERY SCHOOL DRAMA PRESENTS:
SHAKESPEARE CAN FIX THAT!
a comedy by Mr. Fenn.
Opening night – Friday, March 1st, 7:00 pm.
Saturday matinee on March 2nd, 1:00 pm.
Two college student janitors are stuck in a therapy group meeting and one of them, a reader of Shakespeare, ends up being the facilitator because the real group leader is running late.  The therapy group is a room full nuts: one believes she is a CIA operative, another makes bodily noises, then there’s the hypochondriac and the narcoleptic, and the sarcastic girl, and finally, the one who cries over everything.  Of course, a comedy wouldn’t be complete without an exploding toilet.
Tickets: Prime (1st 5 rows) – Lmp. 120, adult, Lmp. 80, student. General – Lmp.100, adult, Lmp.70 student. Back (cement steps) – Lmp. 80 adult, Lmp. 50 student.
