SECURITY ON FIELD TRIPS -  The U.S. Embassy has offered to either provide security for us on field trips or contact the place the students are visiting to ensure the security at that site. Ms. Giles will inform them of any field trips when she receives the teacher's field trip form for her approval. Please make sure to provide adequate notice as requested on the forms.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – Our second semester session for After School Activities begins this week. Please make sure that your students received the form last week, and take the forms to Ms. Ivonne when you receive them back from the students. There will be extra forms available in the office for parents who still want to sign up their child to an activity.
TEACHERS TRAINING TEACHERS WORKSHOP - We have received information on the Teachers Teaching Teachers Workshop T3) that is held every year in San Pedro Sula. This is a spin-off of the Workshop we usually hold in November. The theme for this year is "Empowering Students to be Critical Thinkers". Since we were not able to hold our workshop this year, we'd like to throw our support behind the one in San Pedro Sula.
The workshop is on March 7 and 8. In the past we have asked that our presenters be scheduled on Friday so it only necessitates substitutes for one day (the teachers have left after school on Thursday). We are considering including both days and chartering a small bus to take teachers to SPS and to and from the workshop. In addition to the bus, the school will also pay for the hotel room (on a shared basis) and provide a per diem stipend for meals. Any other expenses would be the responsibility of the teacher.
I know this is very short notice, but they have asked to have our registrations by Friday, February 1. Would you please respond and let me know if you are interested in going. We also need to have a brief explanation of what your presentation will be about. We will determine who and how many can go based on how we can best cover the classes for our students. (We already have 2 and possibly 3 teachers who will be gone during that time.) Teachers who go on the trip will share either their own presentation or information they learned by attending another session during a faculty or area meeting.
TARDIES AND ATTENDANCE - Please remember that you are responsible for taking attendance and marking tardies every day. For Secondary and Specialist Teachers, that should be done each class period. Please do not ask Carolina to provide you with that information when report cards are due.
FOR PRE-SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY TEACHERS -  Please announce in your blogs that you are willing to help parents encourage a love of reading with their children by providing good literature for our students to be read at home (whether it be from your classroom library or from the school library). Our parents will appreciate your willingness to help them out in this area, and this will continue to benefit our students in their literacy development. Please keep good records on books that you loan to parents.
DISCOVERY SCHOOL DRAMA PRESENTS:
SHAKESPEARE CAN FIX THAT!
a comedy by Mr. Fenn.
Opening night – Friday, March 1st, 7:00 pm.
Saturday matinee on March 2nd, 1:00pm.
Two college student janitors are stuck in a therapy group meeting and one of them, a reader of Shakespeare, ends up being the facilitator because the real group leader is running late.  The therapy group is a room full nuts: one believes she is a CIA operative, another makes bodily noises, then there’s the hypochondriac and the narcoleptic, and the sarcastic girl, and finally, the one who cries over everything.  Of course, a comedy wouldn’t be complete without an exploding toilet.
Tickets: Prime (1st 5 rows) – Lmp. 120, adult, Lmp. 80, student. General – Lmp.100, adult, Lmp.70 student. Back (cement steps) – Lmp. 80 adult, Lmp. 50 student.
ABSH LANGUAGE ARTS FESTIVAL – The big event is only 2 weeks away! If you are not sure of what your responsibilities are for this event, please ask. As always, we thank you for your cooperation in making this event a success!
MAP TESTING – This is the second week for this MAP testing session.  Please make sure that your students are given their goals before they start the test. If you have any questions or concerns, please let your Area Administrator know.
GRADE LEVEL PARENT MEETINGS – Ms. Giles will begin meeting with parents by grade level beginning today, Monday, January 28. Relevant information from those meetings will be shared with the teachers in an effort to foster communication and continually improve our program. Please let Ms. Giles know if there is anything that you specifically want her to share with the parents, or specific things you would like for her to ask about. The schedule is as follows:
