THANKS for your generosity!

THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY -  On behalf of the teachers who are involved with NPH, we want to thank you so much for donating shoes, socks, and food items for the NPH Giving Tree!  All 38 children were able to receive a new pair of shoes and 6 pairs of socks!  About 20 extra pairs of shoes and numerous socks were also donated to the orphanage, as well as over 10 boxes of food items.  Thanks for your generosity!

SECONDARY SEMESTER EXAMS - Students from grade 9 – 12 will be having semester exams (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Spanish only) beginning December 12 – December 14. Students will begin their exams at 8:00 am and will finish at 12:30. They can leave after they are done with their exams. The schedule is as follows:

SONG FEST PREPARATION - The Music teachers will be asking some teachers to help with whole grade rehearsals. Thanks in advance for your help in supporting Ms. Norma and Ms. Pamela in whatever way is needed. They’ve been working very hard to make this year’s event the best ever! The Discovery School Song Fest (to be held on Tuesday, December     18 at 6:00 p.m.) is around the corner!  This year, the Music Department is making a very special celebration as an extension of their Music classes.
The children will sing and dance beautiful Disney or famous movie 
themes. The Music teachers need your cooperation by providing dresses for your child: NURSERY AND PK - Song to perform: “It’s A Small World After All”. The children need to dress up as:  The Princess, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto or any other Disney character.KINDER- Song to perform: “Somewhere Out There” from “Fievel An merican Tale”The children need to dress up as a Mouse with pajamas, tale, and big mouse ears. A small pillow will be also needed (bring it the day of the performance)FIRST GRADE - Song to perform: “Heigh Ho” from “Snow White”.  The boys need to dress up as a dwarf with beard and big dwarf hat and a hammer or shovel. The girls need to wear a dress with a diamond or other gem tia­ra to simulate a jewel.SECOND GRADE - Song to perform: “You’ll Bring Honor to us all” from “Mulan”. The children need to dress up as a Chinese girl with a fan or Chinese boy.THIRD GRADE - Song to perform: “So Long, Farewell” from “The Sound of Music”.The girls need to  wear a formal dress and the boys formal pants, and shirt with a tie.FOURTH GRADE  - Song to perform: “Chim Chimney” from “Mary  Poppins”.The children need to wear blue jeans, black shirt and black cap. They also need a broomstick.FIFTH GRADE - Will present “We are off to Visit the Wizard of Oz” from the movieThe Wizard of Oz”. The children need to dress up as one of the movie characters (as it has already been assigned in class).SIXTH GRADE  - Will sing “Hakuna Matata” from the movie “The Lion King”. Students need to dress up as one of the movie characters (as it has already been assigned in class).SEVENTH GRADE - Will play on the guitar the main theme of the movie “Star Wars”.  Students need to dress up as one of the movie characters (as it has already been assigned in class).EIGHTH GRADE -  will sing and dance the song “We Go Together” from the movie “Grease”. Girls need to use a long skirt, a blouse and black shoes with white socks; Boys need to wear blue jeans, white T-Shirt and a leather black jacket (if possible), resembling the 70’s fashion.NINETH GRADE - Will perform with a “Stomp Choreography”. Students will wear jeans and a yellow, red or blue T-Shirt.

CHRISTMAS BASKETS FOR OUR SUPPORT PERSONNEL 
Christmas is the season to open our hearts and share with those around us that need it most. It has been a tradition at Discovery School for students to come together and contribute in assembling baskets of goods for our support personnel.  We are asking for your cooperation in sending the following:
Kinder and 7th grade students              1 5-lb bag of rice
1st grade and 8th grade students          1 5-lb bag of sugar
2nd grade and 9th grade students         1 bottle or 2 bags of oil, 
boxes of margarine, or 3lbs of lard
3rd grade and 10th grade students        1 4lb-bag of MASECA
4th grade and 11th grade students        3 lbs of spaghetti (six   packages) or 1 bag of coffee
5th grade and 12th grade students        4 packages of tomato paste

Please feel free to send any additional goodies that you want to share with our devoted staff, such as canned goods, instant soups, cookies and crackers, or anything else that does not require refrigeration.  Please send these items no later than Friday, December 14th. Your participation will be deeply appreciated.
